Tick Tock

Let the clock tick in the hall of silence. Where air hangs thing with regret. A longing pains pink for a time to go back. Green lives it’s life in the black when things go wrong. Wonder if the world ticks like the clock. Tick. Tock. Tick. One. Two. Three. Four. Why does the door shut behind you when you go. It makes the loss greater. Faster. Cuts me off in the instant that you turn. It doesn’t allow for lingering. I wish I said I Love You, I hate you, or I love you so much I hate you. Instead I’m left with the door. Tick. Tock, and the thick air.

When Sleep comes with the door closed, I am comforted. The solitude congregates in a space unfilled. Like things that hinge we’ll be brought back together. The clock will cease to Tick. Tock. Tick. Drowned by the eerie creak of returning. The door is opened, and the window is closed. I’m not jumping anymore. Wait. Tick. Tock. Tick. Just seconds. Moments. Memories. The barrier broken. Shattered. The door no longer a blockade. The air is thin, and the Tick. Tock. Tick. Only faint.

Alan Jackson sings Like Red on a Rose. Behind walls. Outside I lean. A door I can’t crack. Do you think of me when I’m gone. You and the Tick. Tock. Tick. of that clock. The hard wood comforts. Clouds conceal the earth form itself. Pouring. Floating. Tick Tock. Voices tell me to turn. Go. Be gone. But, I can’t leave. The Tick. Tock. Tick.

Crack the wrong joke. At the wrong time. Tick. Tock. Tick. Feel the weight. You react. Against me. Stand. Alone. Laugh. Tick. Tock. Tick. Fly off the handle. Swing for the fence. Funny. Leave me. Along. In a crowd. Tick. Tock. Tick. The air. Once again. Thick. Tick. Funny. Tock. Tick.

Rock myself to sleep. Lonely. Not alone. Silent. Tick. Tock. Tick. Baby steps. Back. Forth. Flip. Turn. Tick. Tock. Tick. Sleepless. Listless. Lonely. There. But, not. Tick. Tock. Tick. Come back. Be here, not where. Back. Forth. Lonely. Tick. Tock. Tick.

Broken. Lost. Behind. The roar. Angry. Tick. Tock. That fucking clock. Leave me be. Tick. No. Tock. You. Never. Here. Gone. Alone. Lonely. Silent. Sleepless. Tick. Ther door. No one. Nothing. No where. Tick. Tock. Tick. The air?
